Downsizing country, from the harbour to the bushline
The North Shore has the oldest housing stock and the largest blocks of any region we service, and that shapes the work. A typical booking here is not one mattress — it is a garage, a sub-floor storage area and a back shed being emptied at the same time, often because the family home is being sold or the owners are moving into something single-level. Lounge suites, wardrobes, filing cabinets, sports gear, exercise equipment, rolled carpet and a dozen boxes of miscellaneous is the standard load.
Between Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby the properties back onto bushland, which adds bulky garden material — rotting decking, collapsed sheds, retaining timber, broken pots and outdoor furniture that has quietly disintegrated. We take all of that. What we can't take is soil, excavated rock or building rubble from a renovation, and asbestos-containing sheeting on older fibro garages and eaves needs a licensed removalist before we can touch the rest.
Council context
North Sydney Council, Willoughby City Council, Ku-ring-gai Council, Hornsby Shire Council run some of the more generous household clean-up allowances in Sydney, and if your timing is loose it is worth booking one. The practical limits are volume, item types and timing: most will not take a full-house downsize in one visit, several require items to be presented in specific bundles, and waiting lists stretch out around school holidays and the pre-Christmas rush. None of them handle commercial or strata-scale waste.
When the house has to be clear by a settlement date, or there is simply more than a council clean-up will accept, we quote a fixed price for the whole lot and lock in a day. Recoverable metal, timber, mattresses, whitegoods and e-waste are separated after collection and processed through licensed NSW facilities.

North Shore questions we get asked
- Can you get down a steep or narrow driveway?
- Usually, and where we can't we park on the street and carry out. Lower North Shore driveways in Mosman, Cremorne and Northbridge are often steep with a tight turning circle, so tell us in the booking and we'll send the right vehicle.
- Do you take garden waste with the furniture?
- Leaf litter and loose green waste aren't hard rubbish, but bulky garden items — old sheds, timber fencing, cut-up trellis, pots and dead outdoor settings — are fine. List them so the quote is accurate.
- We're downsizing and there's a lot. Is that a problem?
- No. Full-house downsizes and deceased estates are among the most common jobs we run from Wahroonga through to Hornsby. We can stage the work over more than one visit if the house needs to be emptied room by room.
